Cycling: A Journey of Healing and Passion

Mark’s love for cycling began as a personal endeavor but became a profound family legacy. After a tragic loss—his brother’s passing in a cycling accident caused by a drunk driver—Mark stepped away from the sport. Years later, he returned to cycling as part of a health journey, rediscovering its transformative power. Inspired by their father’s dedication, all four of Mark’s children embraced cycling and went on to compete in a variety of disciplines, including Track on the velodrome, Cyclocross, Mountain Biking, Time Trials, Road Racing, and Criteriums.

Each achieved the distinction of becoming a state champion in Oregon in one discipline or another.

Mark also extended his passion for cycling to coaching, serving with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). As a coach, he helped middle and high school students learn how to race mountain bikes, fostering resilience, confidence, and a love for the sport in the next generation.
